The BSOI has been offering Italian language classes since 1992 by professional instructors.



    The Instructors

  • Tom Stuto: is 2nd generation Italo-American of Sicilian descent. He has taught Adult Education in Billerica, Reading, Wakefield & Woburn and in the Senior Centers of Winchester, Stoneham and Saugus.

  • Maria Stuto: is a native of Sardinia. She has taught in Melrose, Stoneham, and Burlington Public Schools at the Elementary level. She has also taught in the Medford and Wakefield Public Schools, in the Italian Society of Cambridge, and the Jenks Center. As an instructor of the Italian classes offered by the Burlington Sons of Italy, Maria has created cultural presentations with Tom for BCAT.

    Course Description

  • Beginner I & II courses: taught by Tom Stuto The focus is on the basic structure of learning and understanding the Italian language while exploring Italy's historical past, customs and the relationship to the Italo-American culture.
  • Intermediate I & II and Advanced course: taught by Maria Stuto The focus is on fostering a greater command of the Italian language while exploring the Italo-American relationships to present day Italy.
